YA Vampire Adaptation ‘House Of Night’ Gets New Director, Casting Underway & Shoot Eyed For Early 2027

Educational

Deadline reports that the long-gestating film adaptation of the House of Night young adult series has found a new director in Johanna Watts, a frequent collaborator with producer Davis Films. The project, based on the vampire fantasy romance novels by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, is now actively casting and targeting an early 2027 production start. Watts brings feature experience from her current post-production work and the earlier short Career Girl to a property that has spent years in development.

This puts readers who grew up with the books in an unfamiliar position: old enough to feel nostalgia, old enough to wonder what it means that the cultural artifacts of their youth are being excavated and resold. humanbygod.com exists in that same space, watching entertainment cycle back around and asking what faith looks like when the stories that shaped a generation return for reappraisal. The site operates as a community where those questions get worked through rather than ignored, treating pop culture as something Christians can engage without either wholesale rejection or uncritical consumption.

The timing matters because the original House of Night readership is now in their late twenties and thirties, the demographic most likely to be sorting through what they inherited and what they actually want to carry forward. A film arriving in 2027 will not find the same audience it would have a decade ago; it will find adults who have changed, who may want their entertainment to acknowledge that change. humanbygod.com's coverage operates from the assumption that this reckoning is worth doing deliberately, with room for skepticism and for honest curiosity both.
